Cloud ships passing by overhead like the seemingly concrete ideas and more uncertain suppositions that pass through our beings.

I painted this a the beginning of the year. I've been sitting on this painting and a bunch of others that haven't been photographed yet. And in the midst of book-making all of our attention was focused on that.

This year... what a year. In the midst of the ups and downs of our lives and the world we published a book collecting almost 10 years of artwork I created.

From the imagined image on the fleeting edges of my daydreams out through my hand and the paint-laden brush onto the canvas and, finally, to the printed pages of these books and onwards to your hands.

I know that in our fleeting worlds and instant blog posts books can almost seem antiquarian but to those of us who love them, they seem like forever. There's a realness and immediacy. A solidity to the confidence of the printed word because making that book is no easy feat. And we do our best over here to weed through all the possibilities and bring you something worthwhile, something you can trust to remain true.

As the years pass and we move into this next chapter we continue looking for to the projects and creations that impart something tangible in these attempts to foster real connection and meaning in a world ever regurgitated.

I was going to be in Connecticut this week visiting my family and realized this painting I'd loved since I had first seen a picture of it years ago was owned by Yale. So my nephew and I went to go take a look. Turns out they have a really impressive collection 9fnart: Pablo Picasso and Edgar Degas and kay sage and Lucia Matthews and so many more. It is free and open to the public so if you are ever in the area I highly recommend checking it out.

Contrast in artwork is more than just the lightest moment vs the darkest. It is also the nearest object vs the farthest, the biggest movement to the smallest moment. The smoothest vs the roughest... The busiest area to the most open, and so on.

Contrast is how we push our perceptions - and our audiences perceptions - in our artwork to evoke the emotions and want to express in our work.
